Our new and ‘first’ Spanish presenter Tania Gonzalez covered the Ely Cathedral Choir Concert in Sotogrande on the 29 Oct. 2010

The famous Ely Cathedral Choir performed in the Nuestra Señora de la Merced Church in Sotogrande on the 29th of October. The concert also featured the Camerata Singers which contributed some numbers apart from singing jointly with the visiting choir.

Sotogrande was one of the venues selected by the Choir of Ely Cathedral which for the first time in almost 20 years toured Southern Spain and Gibraltar. This highly acclaimed group of boy choristers & men performed in a variety of venues, concluding in the Gibraltar Cathedral. Their busy schedule took them to the La Parroquia Virgen del Rocio Church in San Pedro, the Teatro Las Lagunas in Mijas, the concert hall of Alhaurin El Grande, the St. George’s Anglican Church, the Nuestra Señora de la Merced Church in Sotogrande and finally the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Gibraltar.

Music has been part of the choral tradition at Ely since the 7th Century and it remains one of the few Cathedrals in the UK to maintain a residential choir school.

This much recorded choir has performed in venues all over the world including The Vatican and The Royal Albert Hall. The boys and men have sung in front of Her Majesty The Queen and The Pope and have performed alongside artists of international repute, including Jose Carreras and Aled Jones. Although specifically trained for Anglican choral music, the choir’s repertoire ranges from Bach to The Beatles.
